5 absolutely nuts use-cases for Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality is pretty exciting. Overlays, 3d modelling IRL, Niantic games but what makes AR special you may not know about! I am here to discuss AR and how impactful it could be in the not-too-distant future with use-cases that may (or may not) blow your mind!
1. “World-skins”
The short film above is an incredible look at what I like to call “world skinning”. How the main character uses his glasses to envision a 1700s Victorian world in a dystopian future.
Imagine changing your house into a jungle hut, going outside to the city and making everything and everyone historically accurate to a chosen decade. Hell, make the world look more alien. Maybe disturb yourself with a “Saya No Uta” gorey architecture.
2. Real-life Conversation and Intimacy Worldwide

“Hey Siri, you look beautiful tonight”.
Better yet, could you imagine having a date with someone across the world right in your home? Possibly a fictional character or celebrity you’ve always wanted to meet? Not just for some steamy romance, but for regular conversation and a coffee.
Hold a music festival in your backyard perhaps?
3. Avatars in the physical world

Anti-aging is a pretty possible, yet far-away fix that is being looked into by scientists and “as seen on TV” scammers alike. What about a blanket for now using augmented reality?
Just make your 60 year-old self look like a young and beautiful 25 year-old, register that look for others with AR to see! It doesn’t stop there! Fursonas, OCs and drag? What about making your dog look like a Bulbasaur? Which brings me to my next subject!
4. Virtual Pets and toys

Niantic’s prestigious Pokemon Go already does this technically but lets take it to a new level! Generation Alpha kids rejoice, toys and pets in Augmented reality mean limitless possibilities, affordability and environmentally friendliness. You wouldn’t download a car, but you can now download an action figure!
5. Physical Adblock

This idea has been thrown around a little. Driving or walking through the city with blurred out billboards and ads sounds promising right? Maybe replace them with cutesy anime?
I could see the sounds of ads being turned down using AR too. A great way of peace in your daily life.
Closing Thoughts…
Apple and Facebook are on their way of making AR big with consumer glasses. That’s the first step towards a more personalised and perfect world. I can’t predict the above could happen by 2040 at the very least. However, the amount of progress we as humans made in the last decade is staggering. I can only imagine what the next 10 will be like.
