The Mysterious Half Life VR and its importance on the future of Virtual Reality
It has been almost a decade since Half Life 2 Episode 2 which ended on a ridiculous cliffhanger
Since then the fan base and gamers in general have been thirsty for the crazily hyped up Half Life 3, but will it be Half Life 3?
A bit of history on Half Life 3
The Half Life 2 episodes were meant to be in 3 parts. After 5 years of Episode 3’s development it was sadly canceled and the developers, Valve have conspicuously been working on a full on Half Life 3.
After 10 years, we don’t know anything about the hyped sequel besides a few leaks from neighbouring Valve games made since HL2
It has been so long that memes, hundreds of AAA games have been released. However, judging by the latest leak, it could be sooner than we think.

According to RUST developers Facepunch’s forum user testinglol (Source: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1538346&p=51514965&viewfull=1#post51514965 ) also covered by YouTube personality Valve News Network; there have been leaks regarding files with names HLVR in them. While this was in the DOTA2 7.00 patch that was released last week it shows there is something going on in the Valve offices besides the usual Steam, Counter Strike and DOTA.

Half Life released in 1998 changed the single player first person shooter forever. It shaped how storytelling was portrayed in shooters and is heavily regarded as one of the greatest FPS of all time.
In 2004, Half Life 2 released on a high note. It was praised for improving the Half Life formula substantially and giving us yet another highlight in the FPS history.
It is almost 2017, and with the recently released HTC Vive virtual reality headset in cooperation with Valve is rising in popularity. Sadly with the Vive taking criticism for lack of games besides demos and small projects, I feel Half Life VR will bring up an uprising of AAA experiences for Virtual Reality and change gaming forever.
Why?
Half Life 1 and 2 have both had massive influences in not only FPS but gaming itself. 10 years in the making Half Life VR could bring quite possibly the biggest revolution since Super Mario 64!
Valve are incredibly talented developers that have changed gaming landscapes multiple times even with Team Fortress 2 and the very first Counter Strike. With Steam’s large influence on digital gaming stores too we know their first project since 2012 is gonna be big.
